The Fertility Center of Las Vegas

Monitoring for IVF helps patients have a safe and successful treatment cycle

An IVF cycle involves several steps, including the ovarian stimulation phase. While patients take injectable fertility medications, they will visit The Fertility Center of Las Vegas (FCLV) for regular monitoring for IVF. These appointments with our Las Vegas IVF doctors help our team see how ovarian stimulation is progressing and whether they need to make any changes to a patient’s medication.

Monitoring for IVF occurs over the course of several appointments

You’ll visit our Las Vegas IVF doctors multiple times for monitoring appointments during the ovarian stimulation phase. These appointments occur in the morning, and they include two important components.

  • Bloodwork measures your hormone levels, which provide valuable information about the growth and maturation of your eggs. This information also lets our medical team know when you are ready for egg retrieval.
  • Transvaginal ultrasounds allow your doctor to measure the size of each follicle and the thickness of your uterine lining.

After your appointment, your IVF coordinator will contact you to review the findings of your monitoring for IVF and how your cycle is progressing. He or she will also discuss whether your doctor would like to make changes to your medication and when you should come back for further monitoring. You can ask him or her any questions about your cycle, test results and medication side effects.

Why is monitoring so important?

Our Las Vegas IVF doctors perform monitoring for IVF because it makes cycles safer and more successful. Each patient is different, so it’s important to see how you are responding to injectable fertility medications. Monitoring allows us to see if your body is responding appropriately to the medications, or if you need to take more or less of them to make enough eggs. Being able to retrieve a good number of mature and healthy eggs increases the odds of IVF success.

Monitoring during the ovarian stimulation phase can also help prevent certain health conditions, including ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). This condition can cause swelling and pain in the ovaries and other potentially dangerous health issues. Thankfully, with regular monitoring, the FCLV team can help prevent OHSS and other issues.
