The path to motherhood often begins with fertility tests for women
Whether you’re struggling to conceive or you just want to learn about your reproductive potential, female fertility testing can help. The Fertility Center of Las Vegas (FCLV) offers a comprehensive array of fertility tests for women. The results can help you and your doctor learn more about your fertility. Armed with this information, one of our Las Vegas fertility experts can help you design the perfect treatment plan for your needs and goals.
A review of common female fertility testing options
At your first appointment, your doctor will ask about your medical history. They will also want to learn about your menstrual cycle, previous pregnancies and pregnancy attempts, and lifestyle. All this information can help your doctor figure out why you might be having trouble conceiving.
After reviewing your medical history, your doctor will perform a physical exam and order specific fertility tests for women. These diagnostic tests evaluate your reproductive organs, including your uterus, fallopian tubes and uterus. They can also provide information about your reproductive hormones and ovarian reserve (egg supply).
Bloodwork can check your levels of specific hormones. These include follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and estradiol. After reviewing your results, your doctor can learn more about your egg supply and how well you will respond to fertility medications.
Transvaginal ultrasound involves placing an ultrasound probe inside the vagina to examine the uterus. This exam allows one of our Las Vegas fertility experts to check your ovaries for abnormalities. It also lets them count your developing follicles (the fluid-filled sacs that contain the eggs).
Discussing other fertility tests for women
If these initial tests do not provide all the information your doctor needs, we have other forms of female fertility testing available.
A sonohysterogram, or a sonogram of the uterus, involves filling the uterus with saline to look for abnormalities that may cause infertility or miscarriage.
Hysteroscopy is a surgical procedure that involves placing a lighted scope through the cervix to view the inside of the uterus. Another minimally invasive option is laparoscopy. During this procedure, a doctor uses a lighted scope to look inside the abdomen for signs of endometriosis, polyps, fibroids or other abnormalities.
In addition to these tests, your doctor will also likely recommend preconception carrier screening to see if you or your partner are a carrier of an inheritable genetic illness. If the results indicate you or your partner carry a genetic condition, IVF with PGT-M can help you have a healthy baby.
