The AMH fertility test measures ovarian reserve
Our Las Vegas fertility experts have many ways to evaluate your fertility status, and one of the most effective is a simple blood test that measures the level of anti-Mullerian hormone, or AMH. Whether you’re in your 20s, 30s or 40s, the AMH test can unlock answers and help solve fertility mysteries.
With just one blood sample, this test tells your fertility specialist timely and predictive information about your ovarian reserve, helping to determine which treatment will be most effective in helping you have a baby. For young women considering fertility preservation through egg freezing, the AMH test can tell them just how fast their biological clock is really ticking.
What is the AMH fertility test?
As fertility declines over time – it typically peaks in a woman’s 20s, then begins to decline in her 30s – the AMH level goes down. Combined with your age and other fertility test results, the AMH test is one indicator of how many eggs you have left, or your “ovarian reserve.”
This simple blood test:
- Measures a hormone produced by microscopic, egg-containing follicles in your ovaries
- Indicates how many follicles are growing, which in turn indicates your ovarian reserve of primordial follicles, which contain eggs but are not yet growing
- Requires just one blood draw
- Can be performed on any day of your menstrual cycle
Your AMH level is an excellent predictor of how you would likely respond to ovarian stimulation medications used in advanced fertility treatments, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). This fertility test can also evaluate how potential egg donors might respond to the medications used in their IVF cycles.
Our Las Vegas fertility experts can combine the results of the AMH fertility test with your other test results to gain a complete picture of your fertility. This helps them choose the treatment that is most likely to create the results you want, so that you don’t waste time and money on procedures that are less likely to work for you.
