2. Ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval: the egg donor takes hormonal medication to stimulate her ovaries to develop multiple eggs. When they are mature, an egg retrieval procedure is performed under mild sedation. It is a well-tolerated outpatient procedure, and most donors return to normal activities the following day.
3. Fertilization in the laboratory: our embryologists fertilize the retrieved eggs with a sperm sample from the intended parent or a sperm donor. Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) can be performed at this stage to evaluate the chromosomal health of the embryos before transfer.
4. Uterine preparation for the gestational carrier: the gestational carrier takes estrogen and progesterone to bring her uterine lining to the appropriate thickness for embryo implantation. We monitor her closely to confirm when she is ready for transfer.
5. Embryo transfer: our reproductive endocrinologists transfer the embryo into the gestational carrier’s uterus using a thin, flexible catheter. The procedure is quick, does not require general anesthesia, and the carrier can resume her normal activities the same day.

Once the transfer is complete, if the embryo implants successfully, the pregnancy proceeds as expected.
