What does fertility testing for lesbians involve?

You can expect to go through the same types of female fertility testing that we provide to straight women. You will also give your medical and family history to one of our Las Vegas fertility specialists. This includes information about your health, menstrual cycle, and past pregnancies or pregnancy attempts. If you have a partner, you’ll also talk about how each of you would like to be involved in the family-building process.

After having this discussion, your doctor will perform a physical exam and then order fertility testing for lesbians. Most women will undergo the following diagnostic tests.

Bloodwork can assess your levels of certain reproductive hormones, including anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The results can provide vital information about your ovarian reserve, or egg supply.

Transvaginal ultrasound is a way for your doctor to view your ovaries and uterus. It can help your physician count your ovarian follicles, which contain eggs. In addition, it can help identify issues like ovarian cysts as well as uterine fibroids and polyps.

Testing to determine whether your fallopian tubes are open or blocked is also important. There are different ways to assess this, including a HyCoSy and a hysterosalpingogram (HSG).

Once you have completed all the required testing, your doctor will review the results with you. Together, you can decide on the best family-building plan for you.
