The Fertility Center of Las Vegas

Fertility testing for gay men helps make fatherhood possible

The Fertility Center of Las Vegas is an Oasis of Hope for gay couples and single men who want to become fathers. A Las Vegas fertility specialist at our clinic can help you bring home a baby using egg donation and gestational surrogacy. Before getting started with these treatments, you’ll first have fertility testing for gay men.

This fertility evaluation can help identify any potential roadblocks to conception. This knowledge can help you and your doctor develop your customized family-building plan.

Your fertility evaluation starts with a discussion

Before having any fertility testing for gay men, you’ll first meet with a Las Vegas fertility specialist at FCLV. The purpose of this appointment is to discuss your family building goals as well as your medical and family history. If you have a partner, you’ll also talk about how each of you will be involved in the process. Specifically, will one or both of you be providing sperm for the pregnancy?

Your doctor will also give you plenty of time to ask questions about the family-building process. Once you have your answers, you can move to the next stage of the fertility evaluation. Typically, this involves a semen analysis for you and/or your partner.

Semen analysis is an important part of fertility testing for gay men

When you welcome a baby using donor eggs and surrogacy, you and/or your partner will provide the sperm. That means your Las Vegas fertility specialist will order a semen analysis to learn more about your sperm health.

You’ll receive specific instructions for collecting your semen sample and delivering it to the laboratory for analysis. Once your sample arrives, an andrologist will analyze the following characteristics of your semen and sperm.

  • Semen volume
  • Sperm concentration, or sperm count
  • Morphology, or the percentage of sperm with a normal appearance
  • Motility, or the percentage of forward swimming sperm

If the andrologist identifies any abnormalities, your doctor may want to confirm the results with a second semen analysis. Additionally, your physician might recommend that you see a urologist for a fertility evaluation and treatment.

If your results come back showing no abnormalities, you can then take the next step in the family-building process. This is in vitro fertilization (IVF) using donor eggs.
