Discover how NIAW 2023 supports women and men in learning more about their fertility health

Our fertility clinic in Las Vegas finds that NIAW 2023, or National Infertility Awareness Week, is an ideal time for people to seek quality information when they are struggling to conceive or just curious about their fertility health. This information can help individuals access quality care for infertility challenges in a timely manner, so they can take the next step towards parenthood.

A prime component of NIAW 2023 is sharing information about how people can receive an accurate infertility diagnosis

Fertility testing is an effective way for people having trouble becoming pregnant to discover why they’re facing these struggles. It is also helpful for those experiencing period abnormalities, symptoms of hormonal changes or shifts in hair growth and sexual function.

Bloodwork. A blood test allows a fertility specialist to evaluate the levels of a woman’s reproductive hormones, which provides helpful information about her ovarian reserve.

Transvaginal ultrasound. Ultrasound can reveal the health of a woman’s ovaries and uterus, and helps the doctor pinpoint certain infertility challenges.

Preconception genetic carrier testing. This testing helps patients discover if they are carriers of any inheritable genetic conditions that can affect their future children.

Hysterosalpingogram, or HSG. A fertility specialist might recommend this simple radiology procedure if he or she suspects a woman has uterine abnormalities, such as intrauterine adhesions, endometrial polyps or uterine fibroids that can’t properly be assessed through ultrasound.

Laparoscopy or hysteroscopy. These surgical evaluations of infertility help doctors diagnose and treat complications, such as endometriosis, uterine abnormalities or fallopian tube damage.

Semen analysis. A sperm test helps fertility specialists determine if male factor infertility might be contributing to a couple’s struggle to conceive. This test provides information about sperm count; motility, or  sperm movement; and morphology, or sperm shape.

After the review of the test results, a doctor at our fertility clinic in Las Vegas works with the patient to determine if certain treatments can support them in moving past their infertility challenges.

Various treatments help patients fulfill their dream of parenthood

During NIAW 2023, many women and men have the opportunity to learn more about effective fertility treatments. Our Las Vegas fertility clinic provides these leading-edge treatments that help many patients build their families.

IUI, or intrauterine insemination. This simple treatment can be an ideal option for patients with poor cervical mucus, antisperm antibodies or low sperm motility. IUI involves tracking ovulation and the doctor using a catheter to transfer sperm from the woman’s partner, or sperm donor, into her uterus when she is likely ovulating.

IVF, or in vitro fertilization. Many patients use IVF to overcome infertility challenges, as it provides a path past challenges such as fallopian tube blockages, diminished ovarian reserve and endometriosis. During an IVF cycle, the woman takes medications that cause multiple eggs to grow. The doctor then retrieves the mature eggs, and an embryologist fertilizes them with sperm from the patient’s partner or sperm donor. After fertilization, the doctor transfers an embryo into the woman’s uterus.

Third-party reproduction. When women or men can’t conceive with their own genetic material, they may be good candidates for donor eggs or sperm, or using a gestational surrogate to carry a pregnancy.

The team at our fertility clinic in Las Vegas encourages women and men to use NIAW 2023 as an invaluable guide on their next step toward parenthood.
