IVF after ectopic pregnancy made the dream of parenthood come true for one couple
Jacob and Cindy always dreamed of having a large family. After having one beautiful daughter named Kyleigh, they decided to try for more children. However, Cindy experienced two ectopic pregnancies that destroyed her fallopian tubes. At that point, the couple didn’t know about IVF after ectopic pregnancy, so they assumed more children “just weren’t in the cards.”
A few years later, Jacob and Cindy started thinking about giving Kyleigh siblings. They talked to people they knew and searched online. Everything they learned seemed to point them to our Las Vegas fertility clinic, The Fertility Center of Las Vegas.
Starting the process of IVF after ectopic pregnancy
The couple was nervous, but they made an appointment in December with Leah Kaye MD at our Las Vegas fertility clinic. “It was exciting and scary at first, but she answered our questions and put us at ease,” Jacob says.
The damage from the ectopic pregnancies made it clear that Jacob and Cindy would need in vitro fertilization (IVF) to conceive. However, before starting treatment, Dr. Kaye ran standard fertility tests. “We had all the basic fertility testing before we got started. After she got our test results, Dr. Kaye said we should move forward with IVF,” Cindy explains.
Cindy started the injectable medications for ovarian stimulation, which Jacob gave her at home. “It was hard to see her in pain, but we just kept thinking about how having a baby would make it all worth it,” Jacob recalls.
In February, Cindy underwent the egg retrieval procedure as part of IVF after ectopic pregnancy. It resulted in 11 eggs, one of which developed into the embryo that Dr. Kaye would transfer. About two weeks later, the couple heard their son Ethan’s heartbeat for the first time.
“Ethan ended up being Dr. Kaye’s first baby at FCLV. The whole experience was amazing,” Jacob says. “We still have frozen eggs, so we’re going to go back once or twice more to give Ethan and Kyleigh more siblings.”
Advice for other hopeful moms and dads
The couple stresses that they wished they “would have come to our Las Vegas fertility clinic sooner.” Everyone at the clinic was wonderful, including “Dr. Kaye, Katie, Christy and all the front office girls.” According to Cindy, “If you’re on the fence about whether you need to see a fertility doctor, don’t hesitate. Just do it.”
Jacob adds, “There’s no harm in getting more information. That’s what it started as for us, but now we have our son. FCLV gave us the gift of life. It’s hard to put into words how incredible that is, but we are so grateful.”
