Success Rates of Surrogacy in the US
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) success rates in the United States are among the highest in the world. The top ranking clinics, such as The Fertility Center of Las Vegas, have reported pregnancy rates in the high 75-85% when utilizing donor eggs and a gestational carrier, or surrogate. The reason for these high percentages is attributed to the superior quality of the donor eggs, the meticulous screening of the gestational surrogate, and the expertise of the clinic.

The first child was born by a gestational surrogate in the United States in 1985. Since that day, the US has become the only country where couples and individuals can safely pursue surrogacy both legally and medically. The US requires a surrogacy contract or agreement between the intended parents and the surrogate in order to protect the legal rights of everyone involved, including the unborn child. The contract is enforceable and unique to each surrogacy relationship and helps to ensure that everyone is in agreement regarding all aspects involved throughout the process.
Once the child is born, (and in many cases before the delivery), a US lawyer will file a birth order signed by the surrogate, the intended parents, and in some cases the surrogate’s husband. The birth order provides the legal parentage of the child and authorizes the intended parents to be listed as the child’s parents on the birth certificate. In addition, any child born in the United States is entitled to a US passport, which has very few visa and travel restrictions, making the return home a simpler process for the parents and their newborn child. Upon return to their home country, the intended parents will provide the Consulate with the proper documentation in order for the child to be recognized as a citizen.
